How To Grow And Care For Acer Palmatum Seiryu
Wondering how to grow Acer Palmatum Seiryu? Well, it can be grown from grafting or softwood cuttings and can be planted all year round.
Start by selecting a semi-ripe stem from a tree and prepare the planting site by removing weeds and grasses from around it. Proceed to dig a hole that is just as deep as the root mass and twice as wide. Place the root mass in the hole and cover with soil and compost in a 50:50 ratio. Water regularly and wait for it to sprout roots.
How tall does Acer Palmatum Seiryu grow?
At maturity, it reaches a height of 10-15 feet and spreads 8-12 feet.
It is a low maintenance hardy plant that is easy to grow.
Soil: It thrives in moist, organically rich, well-draining, and slightly acidic soil such as loamy, sandy, or chalk soil.
Water: The soil should be kept moist, and watering should be regular especially in its early growth years. In autumn, watering should be by rainfall as the acidic nature of rainwater will boost the foliage colour.
Light: It can survive in full shade or partial shade. Dappled sunlight is ideal because the hot afternoon sun can cause leaves to scorch.
Pruning: It requires only minimal pruning. Pruning should be done in its dormant months between November and March.
What position should I plant Acer Palmatum Seiryu?
The best position is north-facing, east-facing, and west-facing where it has partial shade and can be exposed to dappled sunlight.
What colour is Acer Palmatum Seiryu?
Acer Palmatum Seiryu foliage is made up of dissected leaves that start lime green with red tip and mature to a pale green with red edges before turning a vibrant pale yellow and gold that looks like a fusion of orange and crimson in autumn.
