Tilia Cordata is a consistently growing plant. When young, it has a pyramidal crown with a straight trunk and forms branches slanting upwards. The crown develops into an oval or ovoid shape as time goes on.  The height and width of the structure could potentially reach 20 meters and 10 meters, respectively. The juvenile twigs are green to reddish-brown and have a dark brown trunk with grooves.

The leaves of ‘Greenspire’ are a little bigger than the species. They have a heart-shaped base and a pointy top. On the underside, the leaves are blue-green. Early in the summer, little umbels of pungent flowers bloom. The umbel is a little longer than the pale green bract. Late in the summer, little fruit appears. These are grey at first, then naked. The tree is less well-anchored in the ground than other species.

How to Grow Tilia Cordata Greenspire

The optimal time to plant a linden tree is in the fall after the leaves have fallen, though container-grown trees can be planted at any time. Select a place that receives full or partial light and has wet, well-drained soil.

The tree requires a pH of neutral to alkaline, but it may also survive slightly acidic soils. Place the tree in the planting hole with its soil line level with the surrounding soil.

Press down with your foot from time to time as you backfill around the roots to remove air pockets. If depression occurs around the base of the tree, water thoroughly after planting and add more soil.
