It is best to plant it in spring, so it is properly established before winter.  If you choose to grow a couple of them as a hedge, they should be planted in a single line and spaced about 45cm apart. When planting, ensure that the upper part of the root mass is placed at the level of the soil. Fill around the root with a mixture of soil and compost and then water. 

Regular watering in the first two years is important for root development and should be watered more frequently during dry periods. Fertilizing should be done in early spring when new growth starts. An all-purpose fertilizer will do.
