Yes tree ferns are expensive!
Tree ferns are grown from literally as far away as is possible from the UK (Tasmania or East Australia), they are then chainsawn off in the forest (or sustainable growing farm), they are then dragged and sorted into large shipping containers, and sailed half way round the globe – not forgetting that a 6ft tree fern had been growing in the ground for near on 50 years before that point… then they have to get processed and stored in the UK (big, heavy trunks taking up loads of room and hard to shift around)… then they need to get added to a website, or sold in a nursery and then delivered to your very own garden.
Are tree ferns expensive?
Why are tree ferns so expensive?
Tree ferns are so expensive as they are shipped half way around the world, and take decades to grow!
It’s a massive undertaking, and the prices need to be high to give the suppliers enough margin to make it worthwhile. Lets be honest, buying a tree fern is a true luxury purchase with a pretty high carbon foot print… so it’s going to be expensive!
If you do buy one, please buy from a reputable supplier that can supply the correct documents so you know it’s come from a sustainable and proper place, not just nicked from a beautiful forest somewhere.
How much are tree ferns worth?
The price of tree ferns are ever changing, mostly in the upwards direction as the cost of shipping increases around the world due to ever increasing fuel and staffing costs.
