Phormium ‘golden ray’ is one of the various cultivars of the Phormium Tenax. It is an evergreen, perennial with an upright growth habit. It stands out as an ornamental garden shrub because of its erect variegated leaves that can grow up to 4 to 5 feet in length.
They are light green and have a broad margin of golden yellow and are sometimes bordered by a light red shade. Sometimes, this plant produces panicles of yellow flowers on straight, leafless stems in summer
It is a hardy plant and can tolerate temperatures between -9 to -6 degrees celsius without damage to the plant but temperatures below this will damage the plant’s foliage even though the root will possibly remain root hardy with the right amount of mulching.
